We are SO thrilled to announce that Lori Knoth, MSN, CNM, WNHP, is the newest Certified Nurse Midwife to join the Oakland Macomb OBGYN team! New to us, but not to midwifery, Lori recently moved back to Michigan from the East Coast and looks forward to supporting women and their families across the lifespan and during their maternity care. Full bio here!
Lori vividly recalls being fascinated by fetal development and birth when she was just seven years old. Her mother always shared with her the joy of her own birth experiences, which fostered a positive perception of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood from a young age. In high school, she wanted to deliver babies as an obstetrician, but her life followed a different plan when she watched her grandfather enter into hospice care. She knew she was being called to become a nurse.
Lori graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She became active in sexual assault survivor advocacy and the V-Day Organization, where she raised awareness of domestic violence and supported efforts to assist survivors.
Her career led her to trauma and intensive care nursing in the Detroit area and later, New York City, where she learned valuable lessons about the fragility of life and was once again reminded of her earlier passion for birth when she learned about midwifery.
Midwifery care aligned with her respect for birth, her belief in the strength of women, and her understanding of the lifespan.
She graduated from Georgetown University’s midwifery and women’s health nurse practitioner program in 2016. She joined a private midwifery group in New Jersey, specializing in unmedicated birth, vaginal birth after cesarean, and waterbirth. She attended births in hospital, free-standing birth center, and home birth settings.
Lori is eager to utilize her expertise to advocate for women’s birth choices in Oakland and Macomb counties!
When Lori isn’t providing excellent midwifery care, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, eating, musical theatre, and making people laugh.
Welcome, Lori! We’re so happy you’re part of the team!
