3D MAMMOGRAPHY

The Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam allows doctors to examine your breast tissue layer by layer. So, instead of viewing all of the complexities of your breast tissue in a flat image, as with conventional 2D mammography, fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below.
More than 100 clinical studies have shown that by using this technology, doctors are able to screen for breast cancer with much greater accuracy— regardless of a woman's age or breast density.

Types of Imaging

Mammograms are your best defense for detecting and treating breast cancer. Screening mammograms are used to determine if cancer is present in women with no symptoms while diagnostic mammograms investigate suspicious results from those initial screenings.

Screening

The earlier you begin having mammograms, the more effective they are at detecting cancer. Starting screening at age 40 will save 100,000 more lives every decade than starting at 50. Three out of four women with breast cancer have no family history of the disease and have no obvious risk factors other than being women, so it is very important to get screenings early and often for the best results, especially if you are of Asian, Black, or Hispanic descent.

Annual mammograms significantly decrease the chances of death from breast cancer regardless of background or age.

Diagnostic

Many screening mammograms show nothing to worry about, but sometimes your doctor will notice concerning symptoms such as lumps, discharge, or changes to the size or shape of the breast since the last screening. A diagnostic mammogram provides a more detailed x-ray image that zeroes in on the areas in question for a closer look.

Diagnostic mammograms are able to spot tumors and abnormal cells so that further treatment options can then be explored.

Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS)

Invenia ABUS 2.0 breast cancer screening is done in addition to your mammogram and is a comfortable exam that does not use radiation. It was developed specifically for screening dense breasts. Breast density is determined by the radiologist who reads your mammogram and classifies the density into one of four categories: A, B, C or D (see above).

Ask your doctor about your breast density: every woman should know. Both dense tissue and cancer can appear white on a mammogram; an Invenia ABUS 2.0 exam can help find hidden cancers.

Bone density

A bone density test determines if you have osteoporosis, a disorder characterized by bones that are more fragile and more likely to break. The test uses X-rays to measure how many grams of calcium and other bone minerals are packed into a segment of bone. The bones that are most commonly tested are in the spine, hip and sometimes the forearm.

Why it’s done?

  • Identify decreases in bone density before you break a bone
  • Determine your risk of broken bones (fractures)
  • Confirm a diagnosis of osteoporosis
  • Monitor osteoporosis treatment

How to prepare?

  • Do not take calcium at least 24 hours before your bone density test
  • Wear comfortable clothing – no zippers or metal
