Sawubona. Greetings from South Africa.
We have arrived, all 19 people, 49 suitcases, 19 carry-ons; taking 1 bus, 3 planes, 3 vans, 2 trucks, over the course of 36 hours, but we are once again in South Africa. Thanks to all of you for your vigilant prayers for safety for this leg of the journey.
We started the day early by experiencing our first Zulu church service. The Zulu people worship God with their beautiful voices lifted in song. As we sat listening, we were absorbed into their worshipping. Even though we did not understand the language, we knew we were worshipping the same God. We felt God’s presence. It was awesome!
Baba Mafu is a dynamic speaker. He spoke mainly in Zulu but still we felt his passion for our Lord. At the end of the service, Baba Mafu begins a receiving line in which everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, greets each other with a handshake and a smile. How incredible it is that we are so different from each other yet are loved and love the same Mighty God.
The afternoon was spent resting in preparation for the busy days ahead, which will begin early tomorrow, counting medication to be used at our first clinic on Wednesday. We finished the day reminded that God is not just in a building that we visit once a week for church. God is a dwelling place that we can call home. We didn’t bring Him here, He was already here. He longs for us to rest in Him and be at home with Him every moment of every day. So whether in the familiarity of our own homes in the United States, or here with our Zulu brothers and sisters in South Africa, we have realized we are home because God is here, our dwelling place.
Salani kahle (Stay well).
Karen and Deb, for the team.”
