Job Descripition
This position will be a direct report to our Clinical Manager and would be scheduled to work at the Rochester Hills location in support of Oakland Macomb Physician/Patient schedules. This is currently a part- time position, averaging 16-24 hours a week.
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide information on breastfeeding techniques, proper latch, positioning, and milk production.
- Assess breastfeeding mothers and infants for any difficulties or challenges, adequate milk intake and infant weight gain.
- Offer education on breastfeeding obstacles such as latch issues, low milk supply, engorgement, nipple pain, baby feeding cues, normal stools, feeding concerns.
- Address concerns regarding infant weight gain, jaundice, or other health issues related to breast feeding.
- Develop personalized breastfeeding plans based on the unique needs of each mother-infant pair.
- Offer solutions tailored to the specific situation, such as pumping, supplementation, or alternative feeding methods when necessary.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to breastfeeding mothers, especially those experiencing challenges or frustrations.
- Offer reassurance and guidance to boost confidence and help mothers establish a successful breastfeeding relationship with their infants.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, midwives, and lactation specialists, to ensure comprehensive care for breastfeeding mothers and infants.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to address complex breastfeeding issues and develop integrated care plans.
- Documents accurately and on timely basis in EMR of breastfeeding support interventions and adjust plans as needed to optimize outcomes.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of breastfeeding support interventions and adjust plans as needed to optimize outcomes.
- Maintains professional and positive team relationships and work environment.
- Initiates referrals based on poor infant weight, latch issues, etc.
- Displays willingness and ability to engage in a team approach and professional manner at all times.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Registered Nurse License
- Certification as a Lactation Consultant (CLC) or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, nutrition, lactation consulting, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with breastfeeding mothers and infants in a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of breastfeeding physiology, anatomy, and best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
- Empathy, patience and supportive demeanor towards breastfeeding mothers.
- Excellent communication and counseling skills.
Preferred Skills
- 1 – 5 years of experience
- Veradigm (f/k/a Allscripts) EMR experience
Physical Environment
Medial practice setting with administrative centers and patient exam and procedure rooms in all centers. Office and Medical/procedural equipment present.
- Lifting of no more than 10 lbs. occasionally.
- Frequent sitting, standing, bending intervals at computer station and patient care area up to 8 hours per day.
- Walking between patients care room and lab areas.
