Role & Responsibilities
In this role the Mammography Tech will be reporting directly to the Center for Breast Health Manager. Duties will include by are not limited to:
- Greets patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging request; checking for special instructions; confirming anticipated service with patients
- Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of imaging procedures; explaining equipment; answering questions
- Conducts mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view
- Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques
- Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation
- Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance; instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories
- Keeps mammography supplies and patient drapes ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; collecting and processing laundry
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures
- Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
- Displays willingness and ability to engage in a team approach, resolves conflict and conducts themselves in a positive and professional manner at all times
- Ability to communicate with patients, family and staff in a clear, concise, confident and professional manner both in-person and on the phone
- Positive and motivational interpersonal skills
- Assists fellow team members, shares tasks and enables support to other locations as needed and without direction
- Ensures all process/procedure knowledge and actions, falls with department standards
- Maintain focus, calm and an unbiased manner during busy schedules and issue resolution
- Able to multitask and manage/meet multiple deadlines and demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Maintains attendance as scheduled including on time arrival and work day finish
Educational Requirements:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Current BLS
- Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school and ability to meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
- Mammographic Radiologic Technology certified
Preferred Skills
- At least 3years’ experience
- Proficient skills and abilities in MS Office, Excel and PowerPoint
Physical Environment
Medical office setting with administrative centers and patient exam and procedure rooms in all centers. Office and Medical/procedural equipment present in an indoor work environment.
- Heavy lifting of up to 1000 lbs. occasionally, with frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent walking, sitting, standing, stooping and bending intervals up to 8 hours per day
Clinical and Administrative team presence, not an isolated work area
